Couple of treats to get you in the mood for this Friday. Whilst we can’t provide you with any of our special disco jellys, you’ll have to get down early on Friday for that, we can provide you with some ear candy as Kill ‘Em All have just sent over the rather excellent remix Cage & Aviary have polished off for their act We Have Band. Been getting plenty of airtime in the (make believe) Last Days office and now you too can enjoy it.

We Have Band - You Came Out (Cage & Aviary remix)

The whole EP is worth hunting out, as it also includes WHB’s rather excellent take on the Pet Shop Boys’ West End Girls.

We also have a couple of video’s of this month’s special guests in action, firstly Cage & Aviary playing at Anthem at Coachella and then the really rather good video to Capracara’s recent DFA single ‘King of The Witches’.

This is it, the last ‘The Last Days of Disco’ whilst we take a break to work on our tans and maybe-just-maybe a one off out door secret special party… We’ll tell you more in time, but most importantly don’t miss out our June’s party, featuring two home grown acts, Cage & Aviary and Capracara, good enough to warrant the letters DFA after them.

As usual, there will be disco, there will be italo, there will be some acid house, hell there’ll even be some weird psychedelic afro rock. Come and join us.

05 June
21:00 - 04:00

Bardens Boudoir
36 - 44 Stoke Newington Road, London, N16 7XJ
www.bardensboudoir.co.uk

Live:
CAGE & AVIARY (DFA/DISSIDENT)

DJs:
CAPRACARA (DFA)
SLUTTY FRINGE
DAVID H

+ LDODisco MIXTAPE GIVEAWAY AND FREE DISCO JELLIES TO FIRST 50 IN!
£3 before 10.30 / £5 after

email info@thelastdaysofdisco.net for even cheaper guestlist

So exactly who’s playing?

CAGE & AVIARY
Part man, part machine, part cockatiel, Cage & Aviary take flights of fancy whenever they can. Jamie Paton is a DJ, a one-finger keyboardist, and a pot-tickler. Nigel of Bermondsey is a musician, South London’s finest oscillator, and a dedicated dabbler. Together they are winners of the cosmic lottery.

Having put out releases to mini acclaim on the ltd editions that are Dissident Distribution, they have now spread their wings with new ventures for Paris-based Astro Lab Recordings, London’s Tiny Sticks, NYC’s mighty DFA and their own ‘The Walls Have Ears’ imprint.

CAPRACARA
Jonny Burnip is the latest signing to New York’s DFA record label, though he should already be familiar to those with their ears to the ground for the jacking acid twelve inch released on Soul Jazz back in 2006. Since then he has set up the exceptional History Clock label with Nathan Gregory Wilkins, released and remixed under the names Dining Rooms and Tiger Timing and is currently working with Quiet Village’s Joel Martin as Churchill’s Leopards.

SLUTTY FRINGE DJs
Swiftly outgrowing the tag of bloggers who DJ, Slutty Fringe’s John and Tony have been busy the past twelve months launching their own record label (Hot Pockets), throwing sold out parties all over town and increasingly finding their DJ services in demand at clubs up and down the country and throughout Europe.

DAVID H (BE)
Resident and promoter of both The Last Days of Disco and the sprawling indie/electro/disco behemoth that is Be at The Proud Gallery in Camden, David has entertained crowds the world over with his inspired disco selections.

Luckily for those of you who weren’t there (and for those who were want to recreate the moment in your bedrooms) we recorded all the sets from the night, which we will be putting up over the next few weeks.

Of course the one you’ll be wanting first of all is IF’s live set, so here it is part 1 (they then DJ’ed after this, we’ll put that up next), download, stream, enjoy!

Having got ourselves firmly settled in at our new home under the furniture store we decided it was time to really push the boat out and invite down one of our favourite acts of the past, god knows how many, years, In Flagranti.

The Swiss born/New York based duo of Sasha Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor are about the best around when it comes to dirty, punk funk, top shelf porno disco, with every release to emerge from their own Codek record label greeted with universal acclaim from critics and punters alike. Over in the UK for this exclusive London show, Sasha and Alex will be playing a rare live set, showcasing tracks off their new album Brash & Vulgar, I’m actually a bit embarrassed at how excited I am about this.
Meanwhile joining residents Slutty Fringe and David H on the decks will be the wonderfully multi-talented Nadia Ksaiba, whose fulsome biography reduces me to bitter tears of envy every time I read it.

For years she ran the brilliant Our Disco night, went on to DJ at pretty much every party it’s worth playing at whilst providing DJ support for the likes of The Klaxons, Simian Mobile Disco, and Soulwax and currently puts together the equally great Say Yes night. To top it all she has just released a bloody fantastic 12″ on our favourite label Dissident alongside former TLDOD guest Matt Waites. See I told you.

From Donna Summer to the DFA, Last Days launches you into a parallel universe where dirty dubbed out disco rules the roost, the streets are paved with the shit from Bianca Jagger’s horse and the girl down the chip shop thinks she’s Grace Jones.

After a short but successful run last summer, The Last Days of Disco upped sticks and made the move up the Kingsland Road from Shoreditch to Dalston, where they are busy making themselves at home under a furniture shop at Barden’s Boudoir.

From Donna Summer to the DFA, Last Days launches you into a parallel universe where dirty dubbed out disco rules the roost, the streets are paved with the shit from Bianca Jagger’s horse and the girl down the chip shop thinks she’s Grace Jones.

This month Last Days welcomes down, Jonny Burnip and Nathan Gregory Wilkins, the brains behind one of our favourite new record labels History Clock. Only 4 releases old the label has already made a name for itself with it’s rediscovered and re-edited selections covering rock, primitive electronics, disco, soundtracks, psychedelia and just about anything else that feels good.

Friday April 3rd
9pm till 4am

DJs:
Capracara (DFA/History Clock)
Nathan Gregory Wilkins (History Clock)

NATHAN GREGORY WILKINS
Nathan Gregory Wilkins is best known as resident DJ at the now legendary Boombox parties and DJ / co-promoter of the invite only Tropical Hot Dog happenings. Nathan is a huge disco fan/collector and is well known for his obscure tastes in that field. Despite running a label together and being two of the best DJs excavating and playing leftfield disco music around, tonight will be the first time that Nathan and Jonny have ever DJed togther, a fact which baffles and delights us in equal measure.

From Donna Summer to the DFA, Last Days takes you to a parallel universe where dirty dubbed out disco rules the roost, the streets are paved with the shit from Bianca Jagger’s horse and the girl down the chip shop thinks she’s Grace Jones.

For the first party of 2009, and the first in their new monthly slot, TLDOD (rolls off the tongue doesn’t it) have enlisted the devil’s own house band Padded Cell, the horribly talented Matt Waites to join residents DJs David H and the Slutty Fringe crew to make sure the venue is kept throbbing long into the night to the many mutant strains of disco.

So exactly who is playing?

PADDED CELL (DC RECORDINGS)
Richard Sen and Neil Higgins are not normal people. Having won notoriety as a Bronx Dog (Heavenly) and a Dirty Beatnik (Wall of Sound) respectively, Padded Cell came about in 2003, partly as a response to the conservatism of early millennium dance music but also to act as a conduit through which they could conduct and realize their most outlandish ideas.

With a sound that draws from sources as diverse as Goblin, The Velvet Underground, Arthur Russell, Prince, Carl Craig and label boss J Saul Kane, analogue fetishism and creeping psychosis are key themes, as is a need to create something that is both honest and unique.

A shared history as club deejays and producers means that even the most mind bending elements of their sound are conducted through dance floor focused channels; disco breaks and rolling percussion combining with menacing synth work outs, electro sensibilities and live instrumentation to create an unholy brew that has been described variously as ‘dark-disco’, ‘goth-disco-rock’, and perhaps most tellingly of all, ‘devils-disco’.

MATT WAITES (NIGHTMOVES)
Matt Waites (aka Nightmoves) has received widespread recognition for his ability to deliver the kind of set that makes those who love great dance music sit up and take notice (and hit the dancefloor), weaving together a melodic, danceable and, above all, fresh tapestry of rare disco, underground house and electro that has made him one of the rising stars of the scene.

From his first break at Nottingham’s legendary Liars Club night, he soon progressed to the likes of Bugged Out!, The End and Plastic People and has gone one to play all over the globe from the Tape Club in Berlin, to the Distortion Festival in Copenhagen, Razzmatazz in Barcelona, and others in Moscow, California, Portugal & Australia.

From remixing the then little known Klaxons, Matt has gone on to fix up everyone from Robbie Williams, Roisin Murphy and Alphabeat to Friendly Fires, Metronomy & Late of the Pier. These remixes have been played and supported all over the world by DJs from Adam Freeland to Erol Alkan and some of Matt’s all-time favourites, the Unabombers, In Flagranti, Tim Sweeney and the Glimmers.

Matt also recently joined the likes of James Murphy, Juan Maclean, and the whole DFA crew in recording a mix for Tim Sweeney’s legendary NYC radio show, ‘Beatsinspace’. It doesn’t get much better than that.

SLUTTY FRINGE DJs
Having started over two years ago as a way to blag some free music and get into clubs without queuing, Slutty Fringe has despite it’s success remained a bastion of undiscovered music and slightly shabby journalism. Currently pulling anything up to 3000 visitors a day, the Slutty Fringe boys have begun taking their records out on the road and started popping up at interesting looking parties across Europe.

From playing with the likes of Justice at Mixmag’s Xmas party to dragging over 800 people out of their beds on the 2nd of January for a big disco, the past few months have been good to Team Fringe and with the launch of their own record label, Hot Pockets, and upcoming relaunch of the blog things can only get better.
Resident and promoter of both The Last Days of Disco and the sprawling indie/electro/disco behemoth that is Be at The Proud Gallery in Camden, David has entertained crowds the world over with his inspired disco selections.

So exactly who’s playing?

The Oscillation
Born out of the ashes of The Orichalc Phase, The Oscillation is Demian Castellanos’ mightiest incarnation yet, a bewildering mix of pop songs and expansive psychedelic freakouts that demands comparison with the harder edge of the 70’s krautrock scene, the lambent tones of bands like Spiritualized or Loop at their most medicated, or The Ruts battling their way out of an echo chamber to a background of white noise.

Having wowed critics and punters alike with the astonishing debut set ‘Out Of Phase’, The Oscillation have gone on to become one of the most exciting live acts around today, adding a heady mix of brain frying psychedelia to the dark disco punk of many of their label mates.

Rory Phillips
Having spent the best part of a decade re-defining London nightlife alongside Erol Alkan at the now legendary Trash (R.I.P) and bringing mutant disco to East London with Our Disco, Rory Phillips has built a solid reputation for parties that carve their own path while packing out the dancefloor.

Continuing the tradition, Rory’s raucous headline slot at Trash’s successor Durrr and the joyful crate digging of SAY YES perfectly showcase his diverse and ever evolving musical style, showcasing the best in new music while constantly unearthing hidden gems from the past aided, of course, by his trademark telephone headphone.

Aside from his sets at the aforementioned nightclubs Rory has played to crowds all across Europe, Asia, The USA and South America, provided keyboard duties for Whitey and (most proudly) recorded a DJ session for the sadly missed John Peel Show.

David H
Resident and promoter of both The Last Days of Disco and the sprawling indie/electro/disco behemoth that is Be at The Proud Gallery in Camden, David is not only the owner of a warehouse full of disco records but owns the largest collection of Donna Summer wigs in Western Europe.
